Networking T. He, Ed. Internet-Draft X. Yi, Ed. Intended status: Informational China Unicom Expires: 5 January 2025 4 July 2024 Use Cases and Requirements for IPv6 enhancement techniques in cloud. draft-he-yi-srv6ops-ipv6-enhancemnet-in-cloud-uc-00 Abstract This document outlines the use cases for implementing IPv6 enhancement techniques in cloud, motivated by the increasing demand for collabration between cloud and network. The capabilities of IPv6 and IPv6 enhancement in most cloud service are not ready, such as Service Function Chain based on SRv6, Performance measurement based on IPv6.If we want to realize these capabilities of IPv6 enhancement end-to-end, we can use a Virtual Incloud Router as anagent which support IPv6 and IPv6 enhancement. Introduction With the rapid development of IPv6 and IPv6 extention protocol, the carrier network has basically completed the deployment of them. However, in most clouds, IPv4 protocol is still used, and IPv6,especially IPv6 extention protocol have not been achieved to end-to-end deployment. In order to promote capabilities of IPv6 and IPv6 enhancement into the network end-to-end,such as SFC capability, performance measurement based on IPv6/SRv6, etc.,we should upgrade the according device and system in the cloud. But considering the upgrading of network hardware devices and business systems in the cloud will take a long time and cost a lot, we propose a scheme to deploy a Virtual Incloud Router in the cloud to support IPv6 and IPv6 extention protocol, so that it can realize the end-to-end communication and service interaction based on IPv6 and IPv6 enhancement through the network. 2. Use cases He & Yi Expires 5 January 2025 [Page 2] Internet-Draft IPv6 enhancement techniques in cloud July 2024 2.1. SFC based on SRv6 Nowadays, operators are actively evolving from traditional communication service providers to integrated information service enterprises. Operators need to organize a large number of value- added services in the cloud such as security service product to meet the security requirements of enterprises. At present, SRv6 technology is the best choice for SFC on the enterprise private line, but various security services can not support capability of SRv6 in the cloud, so we need to deploy virtual incloud routers in the cloud as SRv6 agents of security services, so that the SFC operates well end-to-end. 2.2. Performance measurement based on IPv6 iFIT(In-situ Flow Information Telemetry) is a performance measurement method based on IPv6, which can monitor network latency and packet loss rate. In the carrier network, some nodes already possessed the ability of iFIT, but not yet in the cloud. End-to-end iFIT performance measurement can’t be achieved without the final hop measurement from carrier network to the cloud. In order to solve the problem, VIR can be deployed in the cloud to support iFIT. 3. Conclusion Generally, in order to introduce IPv6 capability into the cloud, realize the end-to-to IPv6 capabilities , we use VIR to bring quick and smart update, which benefits the business with fast evolution. 4.
