"You must have this file on your computer if you at all cherish the holiday season." -ZDNet ZDNet Hot Files: 5 stars (perfect rating) ZDNet Mac User: 5 mice (perfect rating) Tucows: 5 cows (highest rating) Screensaver, music box, desktop enhancement! Holiday Lights decorates your Macintosh for the holidays. It's an entertaining application that places flashing light bulbs around the edge of your screen, as though a (well-insulated) elf crawled into your computer through the disk drive slot and stapled them there. The lights flash in the background while you continue to work, so it's not just a screen saver. The "bulbs" include standard Christmas tree lights, Valentine's Day hearts, Thanksgiving turkeys, chili peppers, shamrocks, dreidels, stockings, holly, snowmen, happy faces, and more -- and you can create your own bulbs using ResEdit or a similar program. For even more seasonal joy, Holiday Lights includes cheery background music (you can add your own MIDI files) as well as built-in festive screen savers to put you in the holiday spirit. Holiday Lights is an application, not a system extension, so it won't cause extension conflicts. It is compatible with System 7.1 or later, including Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9.X and Mac OS X. Version 5.1: Among other changes, this new version lets you save different settings as themes for later use and adds support for MP3 files. Rated 5 Cows (highest rating) by Tucows: http://www.tucows.com MacDo is a fast paced arcade game based on the classic console game 'Mr Do' which was originally released in 1982. It has also elements of the very similar 'Dig Dug' which was also a classic console game. So, it's not a 100% remake of the originals but it has some extensions to them: It's a scrolling game if the dimensions of a level require this, more music, some extra items etc. System Requirement MacDo needs a PowerMac with at least 9MB free RAM running System 8 or better. A Mac with 180Mhz is strongly recommended for the game. To hear the game music QuickTime 2.0 or better with Musical Instruments Extension must be installed. InputSprocket is supported but not required. [Archived as /info-mac/game/arc/mac-do-104-jp.hqx; 1273 K] ------------------------------ Date: 19 Nov 2000 From: "Stanley C. R. It checks your web pages for broken hyperlinks and dangling tags and optimizes the HTML code. The program offers 5 functions as known from its predecessor HTML OptimizerPro and supports drag & drop also. Further it offers various upload and download capabilities plus other useful options that make working with WebSiteManager very easy. WebSiteManager can remove resources from graphic files. The program offers a large choice of options, including the 'alias mirror' for a good visual check of an optimized file. Every web folder gets its own optimized duplicate, with the same directory structure as the original. When you upload, the URL of the host is automatically adapted to the directory of the file or folder being uploaded. Version 1.7 does not remove returns and comments from code between STYLE tag pairs. Further some bugs have been fixed. The machine is running a clean install of OS 7.5 which I want to upgrade to 7.5.3 and then 7.5.5 (a 2 step process). The 7.5 installation was a custom install where I selected all the network software. The machine includes a NuBus Ethernet card. The system is connected to a Laserwriter through the Ethernet cable and hub. When I run the Chooser and click on the printer logo, nothing appears in the right window. Examining the control panels I notice there is no Appletalk. I might have a defective Ethernet card, but I am perplexed that I do not think the Appletalk software is on the system. Could it be there and I don't see it? Was there something different about Appletalk back in the days of 7.5 that I have forgotten? Anybody got a clue what is happening here? How can I tell if all the right software is installed? Also is there an easy way to figure out if the Ethernet card is working? This either means I will be reminded of this problem with every click, or I may be unable to connect at all. Connecting with Netscape to same sites works fine (but I really prefer to stick with MSIE), so I strongly suspect something in MSIE as the cause. Is there a way to manually "download" or force-feed certificates. Note that I have deleted all and re-asserted the defaults in MSIE's Security Preferences, I have completely re-installed MSIE, wiped out my preferences, re-run the First Run installer, stared afresh, etc. All to no avail. As an added puzzler, I took a look at the MS Preference Panels folder in my System folder and noticed that the Security module is quite old (dates back to MSIE 4.0), and opening the Configuration Manager Control Panle reveals a blank list of certificates under Security. However, when I look at the Security preferences in MSIE, the list is full and long. Something is amiss! Any suggestions how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 11:40:49 -0800 From: Sherry To: digest@info-mac.org Subject: Outlook Express Messages > Can anyone tell me why my OE messages file is so large (70 Meg) and does > not seem to get any smaller despite my attempts to reduce its' size? One relates to Appletalk and is in another message. Also having a problem using Zip Disk drives. When connected to the IIcx running a clean install of 7.5 with the Iomega driver placed in the extensions folder, the drive was able to mount and I could see its window on the desktop. Subsequently, some action caused the drive to start clicking loudly at one second intervals. Clicking persisted even when system was shut down. Only stopped when power cord was disconnected. Upon reconnecting power cord, clicking resumed. Took Zip drive to a power Mac where it works fine. Took it back to IIcx, same problem. Research on Iomega web site indicates that this symptom usually means drive is dead - but my drive works on one computer. Brought another zip drive from another Power Mac.
